Pi is a symbol of Liam’s love of math. It also stands for the challenges Liam took upon himself. One challenge was to memorize as many digits of π as he could for Pi Day in Mr. Beatty’s and Mr. Zimmerman’s math class.
After Pi Day, Liam confided to me that he had memorized 300 digits. But during his turn he became flustered, still succeeding in remembering 158!

Pi Day Award
The Pi Day award at Fairhaven Middle School is now called the Balton Award. Thank you Mr. Beatty and Mr. Zimmerman for remembering Liam in this way.
